PRONATEC buys its raw materials mainly from cooperatives with the objective of long-term partnerships and social responsibility. This means that origin, supply chain, working and production conditions for these products are well-established and controlled. Our commitment goes beyond just signing contracts – it’s about people, partnership and trust. Consequently, most partners are organic and fair trade certified. We would herewith like to present some producers and suppliers to you:


Partner: Associations des Producteurs Mananara-Masoala, Madagascar

Main product: Organic Vanilla

The organisation was formally founded in 2003 and includes 20 communities. Since the beginning, the organisation works with the "Slow Food Foundation." In 2006, the organisation got the organic certification. At the same time, the organization also received the Fair trade label. The Biosphere Reserve Mananara, recognized by UNESCO, is located in the northeast of Madagascar and has become rare in tropical rain forests in low-lying coastal areas.

Partner: Asociación de Cañicultores Orgánicos de la Zona Central (ASOCACE), Paraguay

Main product: Organic Sugar

The farmers in the region of Central Department in Paraguay were not organized and delivered their sugar cane individually at disadvantageous prices to the sugar mills in the region. Thus, in 2002, the farmer organisation ASOCACE was established with the support of PRONATEC. Since then, the organisation negotiates prices with the sugar mill and represents the interests of farmers to the factory.

Partner: CACVRA, Peru

Main product: Organic Cocoa

The Cooperative Agraria Cafetalera Valle Rio Apurimac CACVRA was founded in 1969. CACVRA runs an enterprise structure lead by a business administrator. There are 1680 associate members out of 115 different farmer communities. They are situated in the amazonian slope of Peru. The Apurimac valley is still the main coca leave growing area of Peru. Coffee and cocoa are the only crops which allow a legal and economically interesting alternative to small holders.

Yacao is a subsidiary of PRONATEC in the Dominican Republic. The company is managed by two Swiss expats and local staff. Yacao guarantees PRONAEC a stable, long term and high quality organic cocoa supply. Grown and rooted in the baseline farmers organisation, Yacao guarantees the real Fair trade ethic.

Partner: Fortaleza del Valle, Ecuador

Main product: Organic Cocoa

Fortaleza del Valle is a recognized and well positioned farmer association with a positive example function in Ecuador. It is a 2nd degree association which gathers 5 baseline farmer groups, situated in the Carrizal Chone region. Actually there are 633 farmer families associated. The association was founded in 2005 in aim to improve life conditions of small scale cocoa producers and to organize them for better coordination, assistance and commercialization purposes.

Partner: Ingenio Azúcarero La Felsina, Paraguay

Main product: Organic Sugar (also in demeter quality)

La Felsina was founded in 1928 by the family Zanotti Cavazzoni, who began with the production of sugar, rice and oil in Paraguay. In the mid-90s, the sugar mill took up a chance in the production of organic sugar. In 1999, after 3 years of transition, La Felsina started producing certified organic sugar of different qualities.

Partner: Cooperativa de Servicios Múltiples Cacao Bocatereña COCABO R.L., Panama

Main product: Organic Cacao

COCABO was the first cooperative registered in Panama. It was founded 1952 with 19 members. COCABO evolved as a pioneer in sustainable management of conservable resources and has become one of the leading social organisations of the local indigenous groups. They are all indigenous small scale farmers. There are very diversified agro-forestal lots with fruit and timber trees.

Partner: Cooperativa Agraria Cacaotera ACOPAGRO Ltd, Peru

Main product: Organic Cacao

Promotion of cocoa started in the Huallaga region in 1992 with the support of an UNDP project as alternative crop to coca leaves. The cooperative ACOPAGRO was founded in 1997 with the aim to continue improvement technical assistance, product quality and marketing. This lead to international breakthrough in 2002 with exports to Spain, Italy, Belgium and Switzerland. Actually 90% of its production is exported by PRONATEC AG. Nowadays half of the members have reached organic certification. Moreover, since 2005 ACOPAGRO is FLO Fair trade certified.

Partner: PRONAT S.A., Paraguay

Main product: Organic Whole Cane Sugar

In Paraguay, our whole cane sugar SUCANAT is produced by our partner PRONAT. The sugar cane is sourced from small farmers in the region of Maciel, who depend on this cash crop for their income. PRONAT and PRONATEC support these farmers in the formation of a producers cooperative to increase the knowledge of farming practices and to raise income levels. Thus, the farmer organisation ASOC Iturbe with about 400 farmers was established.
